| New Traffic Law in Kuwait |

I was sitting at my desk looking at numbers doing the usual boring financial analysis stuff, when my cousin, who works with me, throws this paper in front of me with all the traffic laws passed in Kuwait, effective August 5th. He actually drove all the way to the office from the site just to give it to me; hmmmmmmm, is my driving that crazy???:)
Anyway, its important that everyone knows about this cos its obvious they are fed up with all the traffic violations going on, although they are making tons of money out of it; I guess its the paperwork:)
The Official Gazette wrote: "There is now a specific number of points assigned for every traffic violation and upon reaching certain amount of points, action is being taken against the violator."
4 Pts: Crossing Red Ligh
4 Pts: Exceeding Speed Limit
4 Pts: Reckless Driving
3 Pts: Driving in Opposite Direction
3 Pts: Driving with a License not for that Category
3 Pts: Driving with Withdrawn or Invalid Driving License
3 Pts: Driving an Unlicensed Vehicle
3 Pts: Driving a Vehicle Without Plate Number / Defaced Plate Number
2 Pts: Private Car Used for Traporting People for Fees
2 Pts: Intentionally Obstructing Traffic
2 Pts: Driving a Vehicle Without Brakes
1 Pt : Violating Passenger Load Regulations
1 Pt : Exceeding Vehicle Stipulated Weight, Width, and Length
1 Pt : Non-adherence to Traffic Lines and Signs
1 Pt : Wrong U-Turns
1 Pt : Driving Without the Compulsory Insurance Document
1 Pt : Invalid Car Permits
1 Pt : Vehicle Emitting Smoke
POINTS FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS:
10 Pts: Withdrawal of Driving Permit for 1 month
12 Pts: Withdrawal of Driving Permit for 6 months
15 Pts: Withdrawal of Driving Permit for 9 months
18 Pts: Withdrawal of Driving Permit for 1 year
26 Pts: Withdrawal of Driving Permit.
MAXIMUM FINES AND DETENTION (JAIL):
Over-Speeding : KD 100 and/or 3 months
Crossing Red-Light : KD 300 and/or 3 months
Driving High or Drunk: KD 500 and/or 1 year plus kiss ur licence bye

i quite like this idea, one question tho, who the hell decided the categories and the danger each act posed cos theres some weird choices:
4 Pts: Reckless Driving
3 Pts: Driving in Opposite Direction
and yet
2 Pts: Driving a Vehicle Without Brakes

Skunk.. to tell u the truth, i think they are exageratting with this whole thing. Yeah, there are tons of psycho stupid drivers in kuwait and I guess, the civilized way didnt work but jail for speeding?? Yeah that "driving with no brakes" looked kinda weird to me too, but hey, i just copied it. I guess they dont have that many failing brakes in Kuwait.

Forza.. well in writing, they are planning on it "intentionally obstructing traffic" and "non-adherence to traffic lines and signs". But I'm sure they wont do anything about it. And yeah i totally agree with u, those people piss me off the most!

Fonzy, the 12 points = 6 months; 10 points = 9 months isn't a typo. As I read it, when you get the first 14 points you lose your license for a month; when you get an additional 12 points (making you a second time offender) you lose your license for 6 more months; when you get an additional 10 points (for a grand total of 30 points), you lose your license for another 9 months.
It seems to me that there are two big questions re: the new law. One, will it be enforced any better than all the previous traffic laws? Two, will enforcement only count for those without wasta?

OK . . . so math isn't my strong suit . . . it should be "for a grand total of 36 points"

Fine print. Personally I am lost with all these new rules. Not sure anymore what is what. As for the wasta thing, the police is applying it to most people, foreign and domestic. But wasta is inevitable, there are those that can always get away with it.
